Hat Dictionary

For obvious reasons, it is hard to tell when the first head-coverings emerged other than metal helmets and crowns. Archeoligists believe that the body found in Denmark at Tollund Bog wearing an eight panel, fur lined leather cap with chin strap was a chieftain sacrificed during the First millenium. Finding also points to the Egyptians wearing head covering made of materials, but the first milliners appeared in Italy in the 1500's.

Through the ages hats were made of all types of material, were small and large, plain and super fancy, at times mandatory, a status symbol or a fashion statement.

Nowadays, hats are more functional, protective. Of course, in our view, always fashionable.

Here is our list of most well known styles with a short, general description.
