Sun hats are essential for women to provide both stylish accessories and protection from the sun. Ladies who need smaller hat sizes are often discouraged from even looking for hats, as one-size-fits-most hats fall over their ears and eyes and feel overwhelming. Adjustable sizing helps, but the crown of an OSFM hat is still too large, and a gap remains between the head and the crown of the hat. A tightly pulled drawstring makes the hat uncomfortable, as only the string holds the hat in place, and it can feel like a vise grip all around the head.

So, just how should a good-fitting hat feel?

The perfect size hat should stay just above your ears, be snug to prevent the hat from blowing away in the wind, but not so tight that it leaves a mark. A good-fitting hat will contact the head all around, and if an adjustment is still necessary, it should be small. We hear from our customers about their surprise at putting on their first perfectly fitting petite hat. After a long search and disappointments, they found the hat that fits!

When you are looking for a good fitting hat, it is important to check the size guide. We carry petite hats in four easy fit sizes, XXS, XS, Small, S/M to fit 19.75 to 22 inches, 50-56 centimeters head sizes. Our sizing guide shows the hat’s circumference measurements in centimeters, inches, and easy fit sizes. As most of our small size hats come with an adjustable feature such as inner drawstring, elastic toggle adjuster, or hook and loop closure, best fits ranges are also noted in the description. When you fall between sizes, a size reducing tape can correct the fit of hats with no adjustable feature.

Buying Guide:

1. Start with measuring your head if you don’t already know your head measurement. Always use the sizing guide. A hat from our petite collection can still be too big, or too small if it is not your size.
2. Decide which features are necessary to meet your need, such as packable, washable, UV blocking, adjustable size, chin cord, or water repellent.
3. Choose your favorite style that works best with the shape of your face. Pinched crown hats create a taller look, they look great on ladies with diamond or oblong face shapes, like fedoras, and safaris. Round crown hats are a perfect complement to a square face with up-brim, or wide brim. Women with round face shape can wear hats with higher crown, narrower brim hat styles, like fedoras, bucket hats, cloche hats.
4. Select a flattering color that looks best with your complexion, which stands out but does overwhelm or wash you out. We believe the color of the hat might be more important than the style of the hat to make you look and feel great.
5. Lastly, consider the width of the brim for your preferred activity. The brim should not interfere with your peripheral vision when you play golf, pickleball or tennis. For sun protection, the wider the brim the better.

Our Petite Hats Styles:

Wide Brim Sun Hats: these hats provide excellent sun protection for your face and neck. Wide brims create a stylish feminine look. Wide brim petite hats are available with classic dome crown, like floppy hats and beach hats, and with pinched crown, like Panama, and safari hats. Both styles are ideal for casual and dressy summer occasions. Some are adorned with just a simple band, while others have fancy floral, beads, or shells embellishments to match your personal style.

Fedora Hats: these hats have a pinched and dented crown with a turned-up narrow brim. Choose from straw fedora hats, or solid and colorful print fabrics to create a jazzy look.

Bucket Hats: these all-time classic little hats are perfect to always have around. Fits into your purse or pocket ready to protect you on an unplanned outing or sitting on the bleachers.

Ball Caps: although one size fits most ball caps are adjustable, petite baseball caps have proportionally smaller crowns to fit small head sizes properly. They have Velcro®, slide or snap closures to further reduce the size.

Sun Visors: our petite sun visors are available in 21- and 22-inches head sizes with elasticized or hook and loop closure. Choose from classic tennis visors, wide bill straw sun visors, colorful curly coil visors, or fashionable chiffon bow visor hats.

We understand that in today’s always on the go world, packable hats that require minimal maintenance are preferred by our customers. Packable, crushable hats are ideal for travel or just to have a hat in your bag handy whenever you need it. These petite packable hats can be rolled, folded, or just scrunched to pack.

UPF Protection is especially important. Most of our petite summer hats are rated UPF 50+ to provide excellent sun protection. The fabrics are tested for how much of the harmful UVA and UVB rays can penetrate. UPF50+ rated hats block over 98% of UV rays, thus reducing your sun exposure significantly. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, “…hats are a must. Basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas account for about 90 percent of all skin cancers, and often appear on the head, and neck. Hats help safeguard your face, scalp, and neck.” The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends hats made of tightly woven straw or fabric with a minimum of three inches wide brim to cover face, ears, and neck, keeping in mind that hats can only protect you from UV rays where they shade you.
